Text: Colossians 1:27 – “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Introduction
Hope is one of the most powerful forces in the human experience. When hope dies, everything fades; but when hope lives, even the darkest nights cannot break you.
Paul gives us the core of Christian hope in one breathtaking phrase:
“Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
This is hope not based on circumstances, or human strength, or emotional stability, rather it’s hope anchored in the living Christ who dwells inside every believer. And today, we will explore what this means through the lens of biblical stories that reveal how God gives hope from the inside out.
Christ in You Gives Hope for Today
This is Illustrated by the Story of Joseph
Joseph’s life is a portrait of someone surrounded by darkness but sustained by hope.
He was betrayed by his brothers
Sold into slavery
Wrongly accused
Thrown into prison
Yet the Scripture repeats a remarkable phrase:
“But the LORD was with Joseph.”
Though Joseph lived centuries before Christ entered human hearts, his story shows what happens when God is with a person. Now consider how more powerful it is when God is in you.
Joseph didn’t survive because circumstances were good; he survived because God was near. His hope carried him through years of pain until God raised him up.
For you:
Christ in you means even in seasons of rejection, confusion, or waiting, you carry the One who carries you. Your hope is not tied to the pit or the prison…it is tied to His presence inside your heart.
Christ in You Gives Hope for Change
Illustrated by the Story of The Prodigal Son
The Prodigal Son reached the lowest point of his life….broken, ashamed, empty. But something inside him awakened: hope.
He said,
“I will arise and go to my father.”
This spark of hope didn’t come from circumstances….they were terrible. It came from remembering the father’s heart.
This is the picture of what Christ does inside us.
He calls us upward when everything else pulls us downward.
He whispers, “You can change… you can come home… you are still loved.”
For you:
Christ in you means your failures are not final.
Your past cannot imprison you.
Your mistakes do not define your identity.
Hope rises because Christ within you is always drawing you back into transformation, no matter where you’ve been.
Christ in You Gives Hope for Purpose
Illustrated by the Story of Esther
Esther felt ordinary, hidden, and unprepared. Yet she discovered she was placed in the palace “for such a time as this.”
God’s hand had positioned her long before she knew she had a purpose.
Her courage was not rooted in her royal title, it was rooted in the God who was guiding her.
For you:
When Christ is in you, your life is never random.
Every season – good or painful – has purpose.
Every placement is intentional.
Christ in you means God can use you right where you are, even if you feel inadequate or unseen. Hope comes from knowing He is orchestrating your steps.
Christ in You Gives Hope for the Storms of Life
Illustrated by Jesus Calming the Storm
The disciples were terrified on the Sea of Galilee. Waves were crashing, the boat was sinking, and they cried out,
“Master, don’t you care that we perish?”
But the answer was already in the boat with them.
Jesus stood up, spoke peace to the wind, and the storm obeyed His voice.
For you:
If Christ with them could calm the storm, how much more Christ in you can bring peace to every fear and strength to every storm.
Hope is not the absence of storms, hope is the presence of Christ in the storm.
Christ in You Gives Hope for Eternity
Illustrated by the Thief on the Cross
A dying thief, guilty and broken, hung on a cross beside Jesus. He had no good works to offer, no time to make things right, and no record to present.
Yet in his final moments, he whispered a hopeful prayer:
“Lord, remember me.”
And Jesus answered with pure grace:
“Today you will be with me in paradise.”
If Jesus can give hope to a dying man in his final breath,
then Christ living in you is the guarantee of a glorious future.
For you:
Your hope of eternity is not based on your perfection but on His promise.
Not on your strength but on His grace.
Not on what you have done but on who lives inside you.
This is the hope of glory.
Conclusion
The Bible’s stories remind us that when Christ is in you:
You have hope for today…like Joseph.
You have hope for change…like the Prodigal Son.
You have hope for purpose…like Esther.
You have hope in every storm…like the disciples.
You have hope for eternity…like the thief on the cross.
Hope is not distant.
Hope is not fragile.
Hope is not a wish…
Hope is a Person, and that Person lives in you.
Christ in me… the hope of glory. Amen.
